Graeme Murty’s Glasgow Rangers reportedly want to bring West Bromwich Albion-owned Walsall striker Tyler Roberts to Ibrox.
Rangers have been linked with a move for West Bromwich Albion-owned Walsall striker Tyler Roberts.
According to The Daily Mail, Rangers are interested in signing Roberts in the summer of 2018 when his current contract with Premier League club West Brom runs out.
The 19-year-old striker is on loan at League One club Walsall at the moment, and the Gers are reportedly looking to sign him for just £300,000 as compensation fee at the end of the season.
Rangers, though, face reportedly competition from French giants Marseille. The Ligue 1 outfit are interested in Roberts, according to The Daily Mail.
Marseille are one of the biggest clubs in the world and could finish in the top three of Ligue 1 this season, meaning that they will feature in the Champions League during the 2018-19 campaign
Competing with a club who could offer Champions League football next season would be tough, but if Rangers are able to sign Roberts in the summer of 2018, then they would be making a statement of intent.
If the youngster chooses Rangers over Marseille, then it will underline the pulling power of the Glasgow giants even without Champions League football or the prospect of winning the domestic league title.
Roberts is a talented and promising young striker, and given that he is only 19 years of age at the moment, he can only improve in the coming years.
