Tottenham Hotspur may need a new left-back and the best option is clear.

In a recent report from Portuguese newspaper A Bola, it was claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for left-back Alejandro Grimaldo, with Spurs potentially losing Danny Rose sooner rather than later.

However, if the England international does move on, there is a clear winner in terms of his long-term replacement, and it is not 22-year-old Grimaldo.

With Calcio Mercato claiming it will take an offer of £35million to secure the Benfica full-back, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy should step away and focus all his attention on bringing Ryan Sessegnon to North London.

The Fulham youngster has long been linked with Spurs, and the Mirror claimed the 17-year-old will cost £20million if Tottenham make their move this season.

Given Sessegnon’s innate talent and huge potential, that would be a transfer fee well worth paying despite his tender age.

The youngster is one of the most exciting left-sided players in Europe and, under the tutelage of Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, he could follow in the footsteps of Harry Kane and Dele Alli and blossom into a superstar.

Grimaldo may be five years older than Sessegnon (and still young to boot) but throwing more than £30million to get a deal over the line would be a big risk for Tottenham.

In contrast the Fulham teenager has already proved his worth in English football and, by the time he is Grimaldo’s age, he could be one of the best players on the planet.
