According to a recent report from The Scottish Sun, Leeds have received a boost in their chase to sign Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie with the 21-year-old supposedly keen to make the switch to Elland Road.

It is not the only hurdle that Leeds will have to clear if they want to sign the Scotland international, but it is certainly a large one and should give Paul Heckingbottom and Victor Orta the motivation to make the kind of bid that potentially tempts the Swans into selling.

Paul Heckingbottom, Manager of Leeds United looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Fulham and Leeds United at Craven Cottage on April 3, 2018 in London, England.

After his brilliant loan spell in the Championship with Barnsley, it may be difficult to convince Swansea to sell, but with one year left on his contract (via club’s official website) and the youngster reportedly keen to join Leeds, perhaps there may be scope for a summer move to take place.

And given the kind of pressure that Orta and Heckingbottom appear to be coming under from the supporters right now, getting a deal done for McBurnie early in the window could represent the perfect start to a summer that the movers and shakers at Elland Road simply have to get right.

McBurnie has scored eight goals in 13 games for relegation-threatened Barnsley. And with many of Orta’s signings proving to be gambles that have simply not paid off, signing a player with Championship experience would be a huge tick for the under-fire director of football.

Leeds showed with their form at the start of the season that there is some potential at Elland Road, and it may perhaps take just a handful of quality deals in the coming months to give them the squad that could sustain a top six push for the entire season next year. Getting McBurnie through the door would be a superb way for the Whites to start.
