Sunderland beat Norwich City 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Sunderland grabbed their first league win under new manager Simon Grayson with an impressive 3-1 victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road on Sunday afternoon.

The Black Cats opened the campaign with a 1-1 home draw with Derby County before beating League One side Bury 1-0 in the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening, with Grayson then taking his side to Norfolk on Sunday.

Sunderland took the lead when ex-Norwich strikers James Vaughan and Lewis Grabban combined from a goal kick, with Vaughan’s flick-on sending Grabban in on goal to slot the ball home.

Fellow summer addition Aiden McGeady opened his account for Sunderland with a superb strike from the edge of the box in the second half, before the Irishman produced some superb footwork and an inch-perfect cross for Grabban to head home the third for Sunderland.

Grabban did score an own goal to give Norwich a consolation, but the day belonged to Sunderland – and especially new wing hero McGeady, who joined the club from Everton this summer having been surplus to requirements at the Stadium of Light.

The Irish international thrived under Grayson at Preston North End last season with eight goals and nine assists in a superb loan spell, and having reunited with Grayson at Sunderland, McGeady is now attempting to replicate his exploits from last season.

After his goal and assist against Norwich, 31-year-old McGeady was hailed by Sunderland fans on Twitter, who already believe he is the signing of the season at a bargain price of just £250,000.

Fans believe that Grayson has landed an inspired piece of business by signing McGeady, praising the quality of his end product – something Sunderland fans have rarely seen in recent seasons.
