Paul Merson thinks if Everton and Frank Lampard can get the best out of Tottenham’s Dele Alli, then it could be the ‘signing of any window’, as he told Deadline Day on Sky Sports.
The Sky pundit thinks the new Everton boss, Lampard, sees a bit of himself inside the faltering Tottenham player.
Hours before the January transfer window slamming shut, it seems as though Everton are looking to sign the attack-minded Tottenham player, as reported by Sky Sports.
The Toffees already have two domestic loan signings on their books this season – Anwar El Ghazi and the potential capture of Donny van de Beek.
So, that means that if Alli signs, then he can’t join on loan, but on a permanent transfer.
Nonetheless, Merson shared his thoughts on Alli possibly leaving north London for Merseyside during these coming hours.
“I think Dele Alli needs to get back to what Dele Alli is best at doing,” said Merson. “And that was what Frank Lampard was great at doing. Making runs from deep and scoring goals.
“He sees a bit of him in Alli. He’s going for him. If he can get Dele Alli doing that, then I think he could be the signing of any window. I really do.
“He makes great runs. He times his runs right. He is a good finisher. He’s big and a good athlete. Ticks every box. Alli has just lost his way a little bit.
“I really hope he gets a move because there is a player inside him still – if he can get back to that (his goalscoring) then it would be a signing and a half.”

It has been obvious for some while now that Alli has needed to leave Spurs in order to restart his career.
Whatever he has or hasn’t tried in north London just isn’t working and a new chapter in his career is needed.
If Everton take him on board, then he will be working under a manager that will understand his game down to a tee.
If Alli can’t get things going at Goodison, then many will start to question if he can ever get his career back on track.
