Right-back Jesus Gamez is due at St. James’ Park this week, but could his predecessor be bound for Everton or West Ham United?
Is Gamez (not James) next in at Newcastle?
Newcastle United are set to conclude their fourth summer signing, with Spanish right-back Jesus Gamez due at St. James’ Park for talks (Daily Mail).
Gamez’s arrival would almost certainly spell the end of Daryl Janmaat’s Magpies career, with the Dutchman already being linked with a move away – to Italy, most probably, with Napoli, Juventus and Inter all linked (Chronicle).
Despite a poor few years for the club as a whole Janmaat hasn’t fared too badly on Tyneside, and his displays while at Feyenoord and for the Dutch national team mean Premier League interest can also be expected – with two teams perhaps more appropriate than most.
In one corner there’s Everton, whose manager Ronald Koeman was also Janmaat’s manager in Rotterdam. Though Seamus Coleman is almost certain to be first choice when fit, there are few options beyond the Irishman now Tony Hibbert has left.

Coleman, too, has found himself linked with moves away, notably Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain (Mirror), and the Toffees might see fit to undertake some forward planning.
In the other lies West Ham United, who often used winger Michail Antonio as a makeshift right-back last season.

They too have lost a real one this summer, with Joey O’Brien let go, and had previously seen Carl Jenkinson return to Arsenal earlier than planned due to injury.
Though Sam Byram was signed from Leeds United in January – incidentally at Everton’s expense – he remains a work in progress, and has just four top-flight appearances to his name.
Could either club offer Janmaat a Premier League lifeline? And would an all-Dutch reunion or the prospect of regular matches have the biggest bearing on his decision?
