Signing Max Gradel on loan would be a double whammy for Leeds

The Leeds United fan favourite could act as additional back-up for Chris Wood as well as working out on the wing.

This article would not be the first to suggest Leeds United should try to bring Max Gradel back to the club on loan. After all, the Ivorian has barely featured for Bournemouth this season yet at his best he would go down a storm at Elland Road.

With plenty of options on the wing these days, some Leeds fans may feel that particular ship has sailed, while others may feel it is better to wait to see what happens regarding loanee Hadi Sacko, who could return to Sporting Lisbon next summer.

However, a loan move for Gradel in January could be something of a double whammy for the Whites, ensuring they not only bring a club hero back with a point to prove out wide, but also a player who is more than capable of acting as an additional striker when required.

Gradel is predominantly a left winger; however during his time at St Etienne he played as both a secondary striker and a centre forward and he did not disappoint.

By the end of the 2014/2015 campaign, where he rotated between four different positions, Gradel had scored 17 goals in 31 Ligue 1 games.

With Leeds seeking an effective alternative for Chris Wood if and when the New Zealand international is unavailable, Gradel fits the bill as a player who could solve far more than a single problem.

Bournemouth may not want to sell given the duration of his contract. However a temporary switch would surely suit all parties, and better that than splashing the cash on an additional striker who may get only a few minutes if Wood remains fit and firing from now until May.
