Glasgow Rangers would be taking a big risk by paying £4 million for Martin Skrtel, considering his lack of re-sale value.

According to Turkish newspaper Sabah, Rangers have already made a bid for the centre-back, who is on Steven Gerrard’s wishlist.

Gerrard used to play with Skrtel at Liverpool, and now wants to bring the Slovakian to Ibrox.

But paying £4 million for a veteran, would be a massive gamble by Rangers.

Skrtel would, of course, have the ability to improve Rangers’ squad, but they would never be able to make back the money they have spent on him.

At 33, the Slovakian is now reaching the twilight of his career, and his next move is likely to be his last.

And if the transfer did fail for whatever reason, then Rangers would simply not be able to get their money back, which means Gerrard could be taking a big gamble by bringing him in.
