Wolverhampton Wanderers will surely be extremely busy in the transfer window this summer, and the Sun’s report claiming that they are interested in signing Manchester City outcast Eliaquim Mangala is a sign of just how far the Black Country outfit have come.

The France international would be a superb signing for Wolves on a free transfer, despite his struggles during his time in Manchester, and he would bring a certain level of experience and quality to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

The 27-year-old joined City from Porto in the summer of 2014, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £32 million, but he initially struggled to adapt to the high intensity of the Premier League.

He did impress whilst on loan with Valencia last season, however, displaying the kind of quality that convinced the Citizens to part with such a hefty amount of money to acquire his services four years ago.

Standing at 6ft 2in tall, Mangala is incredibly strong in the air, but he is also quick along the ground – two attributes that make him a superb all-round defender.

The eight-capped France international has displayed certain weaknesses during his time in England, but that could be attributed to his lack of regular action, and if given the chance of consistent game-time at Molinuex, he could finally live up to his undoubted potential.

Mangala is still only 27, so he has plenty of years left ahead of him, and if Nuno does in fact manage to bring him to Molineux, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for Wolves.
