Rangers are reportedly keen on signing Steven Gerrard’s former teammate Jon Flanagan.

Rangers are reportedly interested in luring Steven Gerrard’s former teammate Jon Flanagan to Ibrox this summer, after Liverpool allowed the full-back to leave on a free transfer.
The Daily Record have reported that the 25-year-old defender, who can play on either side of the Rangers defence, is on a list of targets complied by Gerrard.
Despite Liverpool academy product Flanagan’s contract still having another year left to run at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp has allowed Flanagan to leave for nothing – a move that will suit Rangers who are continually strapped for cash.

The Gers have a decent amount of options at full-back, with James Tavernier and Declan John currently considered first choice for the Gers on either side of the defence.
Northern Ireland international Lee Hodson is Tavernier’s back-up, while Lee Wallace, Myles Beerman and Andy Halliday can play on the left side of defence.
But with Flanagan better suited to playing on the right, 26-year-old Hodson’s future at Ibrox should be questioned as he struggles to show the fans that he has what it takes to play for a club like Rangers.

Indeed, Hodson only managed to feature nine times for Rangers last season, only six of which came in the Scottish Premiership. The defender is simply out of his depth in the Gers’ ever-improving side.
With the signing of one-time England international Flanagan, Hodson would become third-choice right-back and at his age, he needs to move on.
Rangers will also be keen to sell this summer in order to avoid losing Hodson on a free in 12 months’ time, with Hodson’s contract expiring in May 2019. So, if Rangers sign Flanagan, it will surely see Hodson wave goodbye.
