Should Celtic go back in for Liverpool right-back Joe Gomez?

According to The Sun last June, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was interested in re-signing Liverpool defender Joe Gomez.
Rodgers brought the 20-year-old to Anfield in 2015 but nine days after the Northern Irishman’s sacking, Gomez suffered an injury which would keep him out for 15 months.
Until recently, he has been consistently fit for the Reds since January 2017, but his first-team chances might be bleak next season and Celtic should absolutely try to sign him on loan this summer.
Trent Alexander-Arnold had another outstanding game for Liverpool last night and, with Nathaniel Clyne now back in the picture after a lengthy layoff, Gomez – who suffered an injury on international duty with England – will arguably be Jurgen Klopp’s third-choice right-back next season.

Speaking via This Is Anfield in 2015, Rodgers said: “He’s a very, very good personality to play at this level, he’s very humble. He knows he’s still got a lot to learn, but we know we’ve got an outstanding talent.”
With 19 Premier League games this season, he has come too far and made too much progress to go back to being a fringe player and it just so happens that Rodgers needs a right-back at Parkhead.
Mikael Lustig has endured a dreadful 2018 and the Hoops manager’s decision to loan out Anthony Ralston last month indicates that Rodgers doesn’t yet trust him to start games.
Gomez, rated at £50 million [BBC Sport], won’t be available on a full transfer, but he will need regular football next term to aid his ongoing development, and a season-long loan at Celtic – who will likely have Champions League football again – could suit all parties.
