Aston Villa should consider the out-of-favour Newcastle United man.
Aston Villa’s injury list extended by one on Saturday when Mile Jedinak suffered a shoulder problem in the 2-0 win over Ipswich Town.
Steve Bruce confirmed afterwards that it could be 48 hours before Aston Villa discover the extent of the problem but, even if it’s good news, Bruce simply needs to bolster that position in January.
The 33-year-old has already been injured this season and, despite being a quality midfielder, the former Crystal Palace man is no longer a reliable figure, but one man who might be is Jack Colback.
The Newcastle United man has been exiled by Magpies boss Rafael Benitez and he will almost certainly be available to leave in January.
Colback, a prominent Under-23 player for Newcastle this season, made 29 Championship appearances last season to help United win promotion back to the Premier League and his experience in England’s second tier is something that Aston Villa could do with.
The Villans recruited a whole host of experienced players during the summer and that looks to have been a smart move by Bruce, whose side are two points off an automatic promotion spot, and adding another tried-and-tested player surely wouldn’t be a bad thing.
Signing the Newcastle man wouldn’t be a very exciting signing, and lord knows that Villa also need a striker, but Colback would be a pretty solid addition to the squad and one Bruce should consider.
