Gomez has been linked with a move from Alaves to Leeds.
Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Alaves winger Ibai Gomez after the Spanish star worked with Marcelo Bielsa at Athletic Bilbao – but the Whites must think very carefully if he was worth landing.
Goal claim the 28-year-old is interesting Leeds ahead of the January transfer window, after scoring three goals in nine La Liga appearances for his current side who are defying expectations in Spain’s top tier in third place.
The Whites have plenty of options out wide in the likes of Gjanni Alioski, Jack Harrison, Pablo Hernandez and Stuart Dallas. But the addition of Gomez, on paper, would be a decent addition.
Gomez is out of contract at the end of the season and will be available on a pre-contract agreement from January 1 to non-Spanish clubs. But Leeds would be making a mistake in signing Gomez.
Indeed, that is because of the emergence of 17-year-old winger Jack Clarke. The Thorp Arch academy product has broken into the side and has earned plenty of praise from the Elland Road faithful.
He has made substitute appearances against Brentford and Blackburn, and fans are now calling for the teenager to start on Saturday evening against Nottingham Forest.
Adding another winger in the form of Gomez to the likes of Alioski, Harrison, Hernandez and Dallas will give Clarke just another obstacle to overcome.
Clarke needs to be given plenty of opportunities in the first team if he is to maximise his burgeoning potential. Signing Gomez would just become another obstacle in Clarke’s rise.
