Kelechi Iheanacho’s agent has played down the chances of signing for Tottenham believing Manchester City would not let him join a direct rival.
Speaking to Own Goal Nigeria, Iheanacho’s representative dismissed a report which appeared in The Sun (21/5 p66) claiming Spurs have entered the race to sign him.
And it’s just as well, for Spurs would be the wrong move for the talented striker right now.

Iheanacho is a top talent, one who has already made a big impression in England at the age of 20 and already won the Premier League.
Yet he has been used continually as a substitute, and is third choice now at Manchester City with Gabriel Jesus overtaking him in the battle to compete with Sergio Aguero.
Iheanacho has an excellent record, scoring 21 senior goals so far in his career despite only making 20 starts, and he is currently being wasted.

He needs to go to a club where he will play regularly, and can showcase his talent on a week to week basis and see how much he can achieve with the right opportunity.
At Tottenham he simply wouldn’t get the chance, with Harry Kane entrenched as a regular starter.
Having seen the early part of his career stifled by sitting on the bench, Iheanacho would be condemning himself to a similar fate if he joined Spurs.
The timing this year would be particularly bad, with Iheanacho needing to play regularly to confirm his place in Nigeria’s World Cup team. He has five goals in eight appearances for the Super Eagles, and needs to kick on at club level to help his international career be furthered.
There would be advantages; Champions League football and a chance to fight for the title, but at this stage it would not be worth the trade off even if City were prepared to allow it to happen.
