Some Celtic fans have hijacked a tweet made by Shane Duffy and bombarded him with appeals to join the Parkhead club.

The Scottish Daily Mail reported last weekend [15/08, back page] that the Hoops were keen on signing the Brighton & Hove Albion defender this summer.

Speaking to The Off the Ball podcast this week, Hoops boss Neil Lennon confirmed that Celtic had held ‘tentative talks’ over bringing the Republic of Ireland international to Parkhead.

On Saturday, Derry-born Duffy posted a tweet in support of professional boxer Katie Taylor.

But some Bhoys supporters were quick to hijack the post and respond by calling on him to sign for their club.

The Daily Record reported in recent days that Liam Moore is also on Celtic’s radar.

But the Reading centre-back would cost £4.5 million and Duffy, with 96 Premier League appearances, would be a much better option than Moore.

He is also a proud Irishman and the prospect of representing Lennon’s side would surely appeal to him.
