According to a report from Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato, West Ham are interested in signing AC Milan forward Fabio Borini this summer, but the possibility of the Italian joining the Hammers will surely not fill the club’s fans with much excitement.

The 27-year-old has extensive experience of playing in the Premier League, having spent time with Chelsea, Swansea City, Liverpool and Sunderland, but it could be argued that he he hasn’t been a success at any of those clubs.

His goalscoring record during his time in England makes for grim reading.

In 151 appearances for the four clubs mentioned, Borini managed just 26 goals, and his record with Milan has hardly been much better, with just five goals in 44 appearances this season.

The Italian joined the Rossoneri on a season long loan from Sunderland in the summer of 2017, and the Italian giants have an obligation to buy the striker.

The Hammers’ transfer business has been anything but astute over the past few years, and this summer will be a vitally important one for them, if they are to make a genuine push for the Europa League spots.

Manuel Pellegrini must ensure that he adds some proven Premier League quality to his West Ham squad, and Borini most definitely does not fit that criteria.

If the Chilean wants to endear himself to the Hammers faithful immediately, he simply must avoid a move for the former Liverpool and Sunderland flop.
