According to a report in Aksam, Newcastle United are contemplating making a move for Daniel Sturridge this summer.
Newcastle wanted Sturridge from Liverpool in January, but the striker opted to make a move to West Bromwich Albion instead.
That decision proved to be a terrible one, as Sturridge had no impact at West Brom due to injury, and the Baggies were relegated.
Sturridge’s value has now surely hit rock bottom, and moving for him this summer could be a stroke of genius from Rafael Benitez.
Newcastle are shopping on a budget, and Sturridge is surely the most talented striker available to the Magpies for what they can afford.
Of course, Sturridge’s injury record is a concern – but Newcastle wouldn’t have a chance of landing him if he had proven his fitness.
The England international would be worth millions if he could consistently stay fit, and the task for Benitez will be to ensure he stays off the treatment table if Sturridge does arrive at St. James’ Park.
If Newcastle can keep Sturridge fit, he could be a revelation on Tyneside though.
Sturridge would be a huge upgrade on any of Newcastle’s current attacking options, and with a point to prove, now could be the perfect time for Benitez to bring him in.
