A recent report suggested that Tottenham Hotspur were ready to sell Vincent Janssen, and signing a brilliant replacement would justify the decision.

According to the Daily Mirror, Tottenham are ready to throw in the towel and sell Vincent Janssen a year after his £20 million switch to White Hart Lane following the Dutchman’s struggles adapting to life in the Premier League.

Following Janssen’s recent goal against Millwall in the FA Cup – his first in open play for Spurs – there appeared to be some optimism that he may now be able to grasp his chance, especially with Harry Kane sidelined.

However, the Mirror suggests that Janssen’s days at Spurs are numbered. And while that decision may divide supporters if it comes to fruition – some may question whether he has had enough of a chance – there is surely one way that Mauricio Pochettino can ensure that the overwhelming reaction to the decision is positive.

The Daily Mirror reported earlier this month that Lacazette is on Spurs’ radar, but they face competition from Arsenal and Liverpool for the 25-year-old’s signature, and it would certainly not be a surprise if several other European heavyweights had him on their wishlists.

However, the Mirror reported that Champions League football will play a key factor in the Lyon talisman’s decision, and if the season ends with the table looking exactly the same as it does now, then only Tottenham, out of the English three, could offer a guaranteed place at Europe’s top table next season.

Of course, it would still be a gamble for Tottenham to replace Janssen with Lacazette – who Lyon want £35 million for (via Daily Mail) – but unlike Janssen, the Frenchman has been impressive over a sustained period.

Across the last three seasons, Lacazette has scored 71 Ligue 1 goals, including 23 in just 24 games this term. And given his age, he should have a lot more knowledge about his game and should be starting to reach his peak years, which could be a frightening thought, and may perhaps make a massive difference to Spurs’ chances of capitalising on the promise they have shown over the last couple of years.
