Tottenham Hotspur’s clause for Gareth Bale has one year left.

Today the calendar turned to June and for Tottenham Hotspur this is a significant one when it comes to bringing back Gareth Bale.
The clause in his contract as terms of his sale to Real Madrid now has 12 months only left to run.

When Tottenham sold Bale to Real Madrid in 2013 they inserted an option as part of that deal to re-sign him, but there are certain conditions to it.
- Tottenham do not have a buy-back clause, but they do have an option on Bale.
- This entitles them to match any offer Real Madrid receive for Bale, within 72 hours of the La Liga champions accepting it.
- This counts only for offers from Premier League teams.
- It is time limited, and expires on June 2019.
This clause now has just 12 months remaining, and the situation is more in flux than ever.

Zinedine Zidane’s exit from Real yesterday threw the Spanish club’s plans into doubt.
Prior to that Bale was claimed to be leaning towards and exit, and may still be.
The Independent reported that there is mutual interest from Tottenham and Bale in a move, if he chooses to leave Real.
Spurs hold all the cards, emotionally with the Welshman, and contractually.
But if it does not happen this summer, their advantage fades, and time is of the essence.
