West Ham should look at Sergio Canales.
New West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini has £75 million to spend this summer according to The Mirror but he should not ignore a potential bargain.
Spanish playmaker Sergio Canales has just become a free agent, with his departure from Real Sociedad being confirmed yesterday.
Yet if there is a manager who may be able to sway him at the 11th hour, then Manuel Pellegrini has unfinished business with the midfielder and could stand a chance.
Pellegrini was manager of Real Madrid when the Spanish giants secured Canales’ signature in February 2010.
He joined from Racing Santander on July 1… and Pellegrini lost his job as Real Madrid boss on July 22, despite leading the club to a record points total.
Moved aside for Jose Mourinho, Pellegrini never got the chance to manage Canales, and the young Spaniard struggled at Real.
Canales left two years later for Real Sociedad, where he has been ever since until this summer, even surviving David Moyes’ tough spell in charge of the club.
The 27-year-old has enjoyed a fine season, scoring five goals and providing 11 assists from midfield.
Real Betis may be leading the running for his signature, but it may not be too late for West Ham to move in and try and tempt him to try and make the switch to London to compete for a spot with Manuel Lanzini.
