Leeds United and Huddersfield Town are reportedly keen on Granada’s Sverrir Ingason.
Iceland’s Sverrir Ingason looks dejected
Granada defender Sverrir Ingason could be playing in England next season, with The Sun claiming that both Huddersfield Town and Leeds United are both interested in signing him.
Ingason, 23, only joined Granada in January having impressed in Belgium with Lokeren, but relegation from La Liga means that the Iceland international could move on.
With an alleged £2million asking price, both Huddersfield and Leeds are believing to be keen on signing centre back Ingason, who played twice for Iceland at Euro 2016 last summer.
Ingason may not be a household name, but beating Huddersfield in the race for his signature would be a huge coup for Leeds for two key reasons, if both clubs do activate that release clause.
Huddersfield’s promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history should give them a boost in the transfer market, but they remain favourites for relegation back to the Championship.

Being able to challenge with a Premier League club financially and aspirationally would be the signal of intent that Leeds fans may be looking for under newly-appointed manager Thomas Christiansen, and a hint that owner Andrea Radrizzani will fund a promotion push next season.
Additionally, Leeds’ rivalry with West Yorkshire neighbours Huddersfield reached boiling point last season when Terriers boss David Wagner came face-to-face with ex-Leeds manager Garry Monk, with the two teams striking up a real rivalry last season in particular.
Leeds fans have been forced to watch on as Huddersfield have reached the top flight, but pipping them to a key signing such as Ingason would give fans another major boost about the direction of the club under Radrizzani and Christiansen.

On the pitch, Ingason could form a strong centre back partnership with Pontus Jansson in the heart of the Leeds defence, replacing former loanee Kyle Bartley, who has now returned to parent club Swansea City.
Huddersfield may well be favourites to land Ingason given their Premier League status, but whilst more exciting names will be linked with both clubs this summer, Leeds can show some signal of intent by challenging and beating their local rivals to Ingason’s signature.
