Rangers appear to have raised the stakes in Scottish football with the signing of Joey Barton, as they seek to catch up with Celtic.
Barton’s midfield clashes with Celtic ace Scott Brown are hotly anticipated, and the reigning champions could seek to nullify him by adding another steeling presence in midfield.
One ideal acquisition would be one of Barton’s former teammates at Queens Park Rangers, Sandro.
Sandro has spent the last six months on loan at English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion, but his future remains uncertain, with The Express and Star reporting the Baggies are yet to make up their minds whether they want to sign him permanently.
The midfielder is still only 27 and has vast experience in European football, signing with Spurs early in his career, where he earned the nickname The Beast.
A Copa Libertadores winner in South America with Internacional, Sandro also impressed in Tottenham’s Champions League run the last time they were in the competition, starring against AC Milan.
A knee injury halted his momentum at Spurs, and with changes in management followed by signings of several players with the Gareth Bale money, the club elected to cash in when big spending QPR came calling.
Sandro would add a settling influence in Celtic’s midfield and would likely quickly become a fan favourite. As West Brom dally, the Scottish champions would be wise to monitor developments.
