Siem De Jong has made just 26 appearances for Newcastle United to date.
Siem De Jong has posted on social media website Twitter that he wants to prove himself at Newcastle United over pre-season.
De Jong was brought to Newcastle back in 2014, but he has had a very limited impact at St. James’ Park.
The Dutch international has suffered with a series of injury problems, and only managed to play 26 times in three years for the Magpies.
De Jong was loaned out to PSV Eindhoven last term, where he impressed.
And the attacking midfielder has now set his sights on breaking back into Rafael Benitez’s first-team plans.
Newcastle fans were generally encouraging towards De Jong, who they still hope can have a future on Tyneside.
De Jong may have a chance to prove himself at Newcastle, as Benitez’s side have struggled in the transfer window so far.
The Magpies were expected to be very active this summer, but they have only made one signing to date – with Christian Atsu joining on a permanent deal.
