Simon Jordan has claimed that Newcastle United simply can’t sign Gareth Bale this summer because he is a ‘busted flush’, as he told talkSPORT.
Newcastle United are one of the clubs interested in signing the Wales captain, whose contract at Real Madrid expires this month.
The 32-year-old is a free transfer, and ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar this November, he needs a new home.
Going back to his roots and signing for Championship side Cardiff City has been muted, as well as possibly returning to Tottenham colours.
But Jordan can’t see him joining Cardiff and he feels it will be a ‘sideshow for Newcastle’ if he ends up at St James’ Park.
“I don’t think he will go to Cardiff for nothing,” said Jordan. “If he’s going to Cardiff, they have to be paying £20-30k-a-week. I don’t see him going for that.
“He’s a busted flush. He’s not a Premier League acquisition anymore. It’s a play-and-pay deal. You can’t pay him in a series of games.
“People talk about him going to Newcastle. Why would you want Gareth Bale at Newcastle? It’s a sideshow for Newcastle.
“Gareth Bale’s career, as an elite footballer, has been and gone now. The last thing that goes with a boxer is his punch. He will still be able to do individual games. And the Championship will be even harder than the Premier League.”
BETTER OPTIONS FOR NEWCASTLE
It’s understandable with the money Newcastle have that fans and those outside of the club are waiting for them to bring in the superstar players.
Whilst Bale was an elite player during his peak years, he can no longer produce that level of performance, especially over a season.
With the wages the left-footed forward would demand, it’s no point in the Magpies trying to sign him because there are better fish in the water.
Bringing in players for the future is probably the better option, like teenager Hugo Ekitike from Reims.
