Manchester City pipped Liverpool to the Premier League title..

Joey Barton has sent his commiserations to Liverpool after missing out on the Premier League title to a ‘special’ Manchester City side.
Pep Guardiola’s side went to Brighton knowing that victory would guarantee a second successive Premier League crown.
Liverpool, meanwhile, had to beat Wolves to keep maximum pressure on the defending champions.
Jurgen Klopp’s side went 1-0 ahead on 17 minutes and things got even better for the Reds when Brighton opened the scoring against City at the Amex Stadium.
But the Sky Blues fought back to lead 2-1 at the break, before second-half goals from Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan sealed Liverpool’s fate.
The Reds wound up beating Wolves 2-0 nonetheless, but it wasn’t good enough as City successfully defended their crown.
Here is how Barton reacted on Twitter:
Liverpool finished up with 97 points, one less than the rampant Sky Blues, who lost three more games than Klopp’s boys, but also crucially only drew two compared to the Reds’ seven.
