Newcastle United fans have been left disappointed after seemingly missing out on Ainsley Maitland-Niles to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Daily Mail suggested that Newcastle were keen on the Arsenal midfielder, but Sky say that Wolves are now very close to landing him for £20 million.
With Newcastle having a very limited budget to spend, the suggestion that they are set to be beaten to his signature by Wolves is, perhaps, not a surprise.
But that has not stopped Newcastle fans from feeling frustrated by the transfer development.
Maitland-Niles could have offered an attractive addition to Newcastle, as the 22-year-old would have had the ability to cover across two positions.
Newcastle have DeAndre Yedlin and Javier Manquillo who can play at right-back, but Maitland-Niles would surely have been an upgrade on either.
The youngster could also have slotted into their midfield, but it seems that he will be lining up in a Wolves kit next season.
Wolves have shown great ambition since returning to the Premier League, and Maitland-Niles should give them even more quality to call upon next term.
