Emmanuel Petit has savaged Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.

The controversial Gunners star is on loan at Hertha Berlin this season and it remains to be seen what will happen to the France Under-21 international long term.

Guendouzi is reported to have annoyed Mikel Arteta and his coaching staff at Arsenal last summer [talkSPORT].

Since joining Arsenal for £8 million [The Daily Mail] in the summer of 2018, Guendouzi has shown his undeniable potential but he also happens to make headlines for the wrong reasons quite often – at least, he did prior to being shipped off to Germany for the year.

And club legend Petit has told him to ‘shut his mouth’ until he has enough clout and respect in football to justify his attitude.

He told The Mirror: “I remember he had a fight with Mikel Arteta and after that we didn’t see him again in an Arsenal shirt. You need to keep it in mind that at the end of the day you are just a player. Until you are the best player in the world, which you are not, you shut your mouth and keep working hard and respecting others.”

Guendouzi has had a decent season in the Bundesliga but it’ll be hard to win his place back at Arsenal.

The likes of Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey don’t seem to be going anywhere and even Mohamed Elneny has reignited his career at the Emirates Stadium.

Elneny’s resurgence illustrates that no matter how far out in the cold you are, there’s always a way back under Arteta if your attitude and training are water-tight, but time will tell whether Guenoduzi can tow the line under the Spaniard.
