Andy Walker has urged the Celtic board to show fans more respect as the time for renewing season tickets draws near.

The former Parkhead striker has frequently criticised the club during a tumultuous season, and drew the ire of manager Neil Lennon with his comments regarding their controversial trip to Dubai.

Walker has looked on as the promised ‘January review’ failed to materialise, and with 50,000 Celtic supporters facing an imminent decision about renewals he has called for more transparency.

Fans have been calling or an end to Lennon’s tenure for months, and Walker believes they deserve to know if he will be there next season in order to make an informed decision when it comes to renewing.

Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of their match against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park, Walker said: “I have no doubt that Celtic supporters will give up their money again. They will buy into the club, it’s their club, they support it through thick and thin.

“You’ll get season tickets renewed, and in huge numbers, but I think they deserve a wee bit more respect. What is happening?

“If Neil Lennon is going to be in charge next season, tell them. If it is going to be someone else, tell them.

“If there is a new structure in place that is going to be so different, tell them.

“Let the fans know. Let them get excited about the prospect of next season. There is nothing to be excited about with Celtic at the moment.

“It looks very likely that the Scottish Cup won’t be played to its conclusion this season.

“The league title is gone, Celtic will finish second, but engage with the supporters and give them a bit of hope for next season, that’s all they are looking for.

“I don’t think it’s too much to ask.”
