But the England international – who has nine caps for his country – wound up signing for Crystal Palace in a £500,000 deadline-day deal on Friday.
Alisson, Jurgen Klopp’s number one, is still out for a while longer and some Liverpool fans believe that the club missed a trick by not swooping for Butland when they had the chance.
