Speaking on The Overlap, Jamie Carragher has been discussing Liverpool’s squad make up and Jordan Henderson.

The Reds’ captain has been a key player for many years, but as he enters his mid-30s, Carragher believes that he’s no longer a player the Merseyside club should be reliant upon.

Indeed, Carragher says that at this point in his career, Henderson shouldn’t be playing for Liverpool every week, but he has to due to the fact the squad hasn’t been managed properly.

Henderson shouldn’t be playing

Carragher spoke about some of Liverpool’s problems.

“There has been mismanagement of this squad. I go back to Jordan Henderson, he’s getting a lot of stick off of Liverpool supporters at the moment. Jordan Henderson has done his job. He came at 21, he’s 32 now and he’s won everything. He shouldn’t be playing every week right now anyway, with the mismanagement of the squad he shouldn’t be playing every week right now at 32, 33, he has to play there due to the mismanagement of the squad,” Carragher said.

Needs replacing

Carragher is absolutely right, Henderson shouldn’t be starting for a team like Liverpool on a weekly basis at this point in his career.

Yes, he’s a talented player, and yes, he’s a great leader, but at his age, he’s not that top level of midfielder that Liverpool need to compete for major honours.

The 32-year-old has more than proven his ability over the years, but now is the time to faze him out of the XI.

This summer, one of the first things on Liverpool’s shopping list should be a Henderson replacement.
