Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Danny Batth is reportedly on West Bromwich Albion’s radar this summer.

According to a recent report from the Daily Mirror’s live transfer feed (02/07; 13:31), West Brom are eyeing up a move for Wolves defender Danny Batth this summer as Darren Moore continues to prepare his side for life in the Championship.

The Baggies have already lost Jonny Evans this summer, and it would be no surprise if he was not the last key player at the back to leave The Hawthorns during this window, so perhaps it is not a major surprise that Moore has his eye on a defender who now boasts a promotion out of the second tier on his CV.

Batth played more of a peripheral role under Nuno Espirito Santo, making just 16 league appearances as the Molineux outfit won the Championship at a canter. That would suggest that Wolves may perhaps be willing to consider an offer for the 27-year-old, and if that is the case, then Nuno should perhaps look to use West Brom’s Batth interest to boost his hopes of landing one of their own reported targets.

According to a report from ESPN last month, Wolves are keen on signing Baggies ace Ahmed Hegazi – and there is a release clause in his contract worth around £10 million which may leave West Brom powerless if they are hoping to keep him.

£10 million for the Egyptian arguably appears to be something of a bargain in today’s game, so Wolves may perhaps be more than happy to pay that figure. But perhaps Nuno and the club’s hierarchy should reach out to the Baggies and suggest that they want Hegazi for a lower fee with Batth heading in the opposite direction.

Batth has been a great servant for the club. He may divide some of the fans, but he has still made more than 200 appearances for the side in all competitions, but using him to help land a defender who boasts Premier League experience – he was arguably one of the few West Brom players to emerge from last season with any credit – may be a very smart move indeed.

Replacing Hegazi is going to be a tough ask for Moore, and the release clause potentially takes the power out of the Baggies’ hands, so perhaps they may be open to the idea of some kind of swap deal if Wolves put one of their own targets on the table as part of the negotiations.
