Stoke manager Paul Lambert has laughed off a potential £35m offer from Wolves for Jack Butland, so should they instead target Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet?
Wolverhampton Wanderers have received a knock in their pursuit of Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland following comments from his manager Paul Lambert.
The newly-crowned Championship winners had been linked with a £35m move for Butland, as outlined by Birmingham Live, but Lambert laughed off the rumour.
“£35m… is that for one glove?” said Lambert. “The way the modern market is you might get one glove for that.
“I know the people at Wolves, but that will get Jack’s right-hand glove!”
As a result Wolves have instead reportedly turned their attention to Alex McCarthy of Southampton, but is there another stopper from the Premier League they should also take a look at?
On his way out?
Simon Mignolet could well be leaving Liverpool this summer having fallen behind Loris Karius for a place as Jurgen Klopp’s number one between the sticks.
Mignolet has grown understandably frustrated at the lack of first team football and is considering his options and whether to leave Anfield.
The one annoying thing for any club interested in signing the Belgium international, however, is that they will have to wait until after the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
“I don’t know what the future holds for me,” Mignolet told Belgian publication DH.
“I have three years left on my contract at Liverpool. Of course I want to play. The coach knows that, and I have talked about it with him. I will think about my future after the World Cup.”
