Should Wolves bring back former loanee Darron Gibson, who is surplus to requirements at Everton?

Everton midfielder Darron Gibson is a player who desperately needs a transfer away from the club this January, having been overlooked entirely by manager Ronald Koeman.

The Irishman has made fewer than 10 Premier League starts across the past three seasons combined, and needs to choose his next club wisely.

That is why a return to a club where he once spent a season on loan could be a smart move, if they show an interest.

Gibson spent part of the 2007/08 season on loan at Wolves, before he established himself as a first team player at Manchester United.

He eventually faded at United but not before scoring in the 2011 Champions League semi-final against Schalke.

Gibson struggled at Everton ever since David Moyes left the club in 2013, and should have moved a long while ago.

He only just turned 29 late last year and should have plenty of football left in him. With Wolves sitting in 16th place in the Championship, they should be open to bringing in the Republic of Ireland international, providing he has the right motivation and wants to get his career back on track.

The kicker is that Wolves boss Paul Lambert attempted to sign Gibson on loan at Blackburn 12 months ago, The Mirror reported.

A deal could not be agreed, but 12 months on, having been overlooked by another manager at Goodison Park, Gibson should finally see the writing on the wall. With a previous connection to Wolves already established, a return to Molineux could be an ideal fit.
