Should Wolves look at signing Michael Mancienne when his Nottingham Forest contract expires?
Michael Mancienne – Nottingham Forest
Amid the drama on and off the field at Nottingham Forest, Michael Mancienne’s expiring contract has slipped under the radar.
The 29-year-old will be a free agent this summer and is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, despite starting 18 times this season.
One potential destination for Mancienne could be Wolves, the club where he spent three separate seasons on loan as a youngster while he was under contract to Chelsea.
Mancienne made a total of 60 appearances for Wolves, including during two seasons while they were in the Premier League, but instead of signing permanently at Molineux he was sold to German side Hamburg instead.
His spell in Germany was brief, returning to England to play under his former England under-21 coach Stuart Pearce at Nottingham Forest.
Under Pearce Mancienne had a superb start at Forest, but as is the way at the City Ground under Fawaz Al-Hasawi’s ownership, this was brief with the manager sacked after just a few months.
Mancienne’s career has plateaued since, and he is in need of a new challenge.
A return to Wolves could be a smart move for him, playing in a division he is familiar with and buoyed by a relationship with a fanbase where he once played.
Wolves have money to spend this summer but should not ignore a potential bargain on a free transfer when it presents itself.
