Ally McCoist has told Sky Sports that he would pick Rangers defender James Tavernier as his Player of the Year in Scotland.
Tavernier actually isn’t playing for Rangers currently, as he is suffering with injury.
However, the right-back has clearly played a vital role in helping Steven Gerrard’s side lift the title.
And while McCoist admits that plenty of Rangers players have claims to take the honour, it is Tavernier he feels who deserves it most.
“I think it’s a tough call,” McCoist explained. “You could make a case for Goldson, playing every game.
“You could make a case for the goalkeeper, which might be a little bit bizarre, McGregor has been brilliant, as has Davis.
“But I think I’d give it to Tavernier. I think he’s had a wonderful season.
“I feel sorry for him at this moment in time not being able to play.
“But I just think his performance in terms of his level of goals and assists, it’s been remarkable. Tavernier should win it for me.”

Tavernier has indeed enjoyed a rather remarkable season for Rangers in terms of his attacking productivity.
The 29-year-old has contributed with 17 goals and 15 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.
Those statistics make him one of Rangers’ most dangerous attacking threats, and have earned him admiring glances from elsewhere.
But Gerrard will surely be planning to keep Tavernier around at Ibrox, when he will have a key role to play again next season, after he returns from injury.
