Borussia Monchengladbach want to sign Reece Oxford permanently but should West Ham wait until the summer before making a decision?

Borussia Monchengladbach have submitted a bid in the region of £10m to sign Reece Oxford from West Ham United on a permanent basis, reports Sky Sports.

Oxford has just returned to the Hammers after spending the first half of this season on loan with Gladbach – playing four times – but now the Bundesliga side are keen to bring the 19-year-old back immediately.

“The ball is now with West Ham and Reece made a clear statement saying he would like to continue playing football in Gladbach and I personally believe that would be the best for his development,” the German club’s head coach Dieter Hecking said.

This comes shortly after West Ham manager David Moyes admitted that Oxford would be given a chance to impress him at the London Stadium, with the Scot having not seen the teenager play.

“We will take a look at him and see how he is, I hope we can help improve him. I’ve only just met him, but I know he is well thought of here and we will work with him,” Moyes said.

Unfortunately Oxford has already picked up an injury since returning to East London, with his boss revealing to fan website Knees Up Mother Brown that the defender has sprained his ankle in training and is unlikely to feature in the Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday (January 4) as a result.

So still Moyes will have to wait to see the youngster in action, but with the England Under-20 international having been considered one of the most exciting prospects at the club since becoming their youngest ever player upon making his debut back in July 2015, surely the 54-year-old should wait until at least the summer before selling him permanently?

As the Telegraph reports, the Hammers are in the market for a new centre-back so why not give Oxford a chance to impress rather than rushing into a January sale?
