Andy Carroll’s record at West Ham United is disappointing, but should he be given a chance once he recovers from his injuries?

Andy Carroll has suffered with injuries for the past two or so years, and there are suggestions that West Ham United could sell him sooner rather than later.

The Hammers’ co-chairman David Gold recently stated that there have been no bids for the 25-year-old striker – but if an offer does come in, should the London club accept it?

The stats below suggest that West Ham should. Despite being highly rated during his time at Newcastle United, Carroll is now largely considered an average striker who struggles to score goals.

However, one needs to remember that Carroll has been unlucky with injuries. It is not easy for a striker to start banging in the goals as soon as he recovers from injuries.

Moreover, the England international has also struggled with confidence issues. Carroll’s £35 million move to Liverpool was a huge failure, and for the past two or so years he has been trying to get his career back on track.

At this moment in time, Carroll is surplus to requirements at West Ham. Sam Allardyce’s side are flying high in the Premier League without him, with summer signings Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho going strong.

Carroll is expected to make his comeback from injury later this month, and he is by no means guaranteed playing time.

However, the Englishman needs to be given one final chance by West Ham; selling him in January would not be fair. Carroll needs to be given time to show what he can do for the Hammers.

If Carroll fails to make an impact at Boleyn Ground this season, then perhaps West Ham can let him go next summer.
