West Ham United had Joao Mario on loan last season, but they decided against making the move permanent.

West Ham United may already be missing Joao Mario, just weeks after they passed up the opportunity to sign him.
West Ham had Mario on loan for the back end of last season, and he largely impressed in David Moyes’ side.
The Portuguese international’s willingness to break forward, and his creativity made him an important figure for the Hammers last term.
But West Ham overlooked the chance to sign him this summer, in favour of other options.

West Ham spent big on Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson, with Lucas Perez also joining.
It would be foolish to write any of the trio off right now, but their initial impact has certainly not been as big as Mario’s was.
And West Ham may now be regretting not pushing harder to sign the attacking midfielder from Inter Milan, as he could have added quality to their squad this season.
