West Ham United will offer Newcastle United Darren Randolph, according to reports, but a better deal could be possible for both clubs.
Speculation is rife that West Ham United will offer goalkeeper Darren Randolph to Newcastle United this summer.
The Chronicle reported that West Ham – on the brink of signing Joe Hart, according to Sky Sports News – will offer him to the newly-promoted Magpies, but should Slaven Bilic look for a player in return?
It remains to be seen how big of a role Chancel Mbemba plays with Newcastle next season, after making just 12 Championship appearances under Rafael Benitez last term.
That being said, he is a fine centre-back, as he proved this throughout his debut season at St James’s Park, and if he is available then Bilic should certainly enquire.
West Ham have plenty of centre-back options, but Mbemba would strengthen them.
Unless utterly desperate, Jose Fonte should be nowhere near Bilic’s first XI next season, while long-term replacements for 33-year-old James Collins should be brought in.
Both of the Irons other central defenders – Winston Reid, who is injured, and Gabriel Ogbonna – are 29 years of age and Mbemba, 22, would certainly add a degree of youthfulness to what is an aging defence and increasingly unreliable defence.
Signing one or two strikers should be Bilic’s main priority, but the Croatian boss should look into bringing in the Newcastle man – and Randolph could be the perfect ticket.
Of course, the Conoglese international is worth more than 30-year-old Randolph, so a straight swap is out of the question, but a player-plus-cash deal might well be enough to tempt the Magpies.
