The Newcastle United frontman could be a useful addition to the West Ham United squad.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic has endured his fair share of criticism so far this season, with his team currently sitting in 16th position in the Premier League table, after an underwhelming return of just eight points from nine league outings.

Wednesday night’s dramatic 3-2 over Spurs would have lifted the confidence at West Ham, that much is certain, but they must not get carried away with their Carabao Cup antics, and Bilic must not allow it to paper over the obvious cracks at the club.

The Croatian will surely be looking to add to his squad in January, and one area in particular that requires attention is his forward department, with Javier Hernandez struggling and Andy Carroll unreliable from a fitness perspective.

And with this in mind, the Hammers should consider making a move for Magpies hitman Dwight Gayle, who currently finds himself on the periphery of Rafa Benitez’s starting XI.

The 27-year-old is a real live-wire, and he proved his quality last season for Newcastle, banging in 23 goals in 32 Championship appearances during their promotion-winning campaign.

Gayle would offer fantastic competition for Hernandez at the London Stadium, and keep the little Mexican on his toes.

It is unclear whether or not Newcastle would be open to selling the former Crystal Palace striker, but with him playing such a limited role on Tyneside, Benitez could very well be tempted into sanctioning his exit.

And if Bilic does manage to bring Gayle to the London Stadium in January, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for West Ham.
