According to a report from The Telegraph, West Ham are ready to begin talks with Manuel Pellegrini over the vacant manager’s position at the London Stadium with a three-year deal likely to be put on the table.

Pellegrini is an option that the West Ham board have long admired, according to The Telegraph, and it appears that the club may be about to get their man with discussions set to begin.

With the Chilean having previously worked with the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid, it would be little surprise if some of the Hammers fans were hoping that Pellegrini’s arrival – if it happens – inspires the side to target some marquee names as they look to ensure that they go nowhere near the relegation battle again next season.

And perhaps one of the players that they should target is Yaya Toure as he edges towards the Manchester City exit. Toure’s best years may be behind him, but he has already ensured that he will go down as one of the finest midfielders the Premier League has seen, winning three winners’ medals and playing a particularly crucial role in City’s first two titles of this decade.

He may be on wages of £220,000-a-week at City – according to Spotrac – but he surely cannot expect to earn anything like that kind of money if he plans to stay in England when his contract expires, and that should tempt West Ham to offer Toure the chance to make the move to be reunited with Pellegrini.

It was under Pellegrini that Toure scored 20 goals to inspire City to the 2013/14 title. Only Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez scored more that season, and anything like that return for the Irons would make him a fantastic signing.

Toure may not be the player of 2014 any longer, but he still possesses that touch of quality that could make him a superb addition in a number of roles, and he may relish the chance to prove that he can still make a devastating impact at the highest level. So perhaps Pellegrini should reach out to the 35-year-old if he is appointed this week.
