West Ham United are allegedly closing in on the signing of Lucas Perez, but is Danny Welbeck the Arsenal forward they should actually be looking to sign?

West Ham United are closing in on the signing of Arsenal striker Lucas Perez, according to the BBC, and he would become new manager Manuel Pellegrini’s ninth signing of the summer.
According to the Mirror, the Hammers will pay around £4million for Perez as Pellegrini seeks competition for Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez.
Yet are West Ham targeting the wrong Gunners forward, with the Evening Standard reporting that the North London club are willing to listen to offers for Danny Welbeck?
Bournemouth, Everton and Southampton have already apparently shown interest in Welbeck, with Arsenal needing to sell players in order to balance the books after spending £70m this summer.
They also need to cut their wage bill and with the England international earning £115,000-a-week at the Emirates Stadium his exit would help do that.

Welbeck is two years younger than Perez and while never a prolific scorer during his time at the Gunners and Manchester United before that, the 27-year-old does have bags of Premier League, European and international experience.
The injuries the forward has suffered throughout his career may be of some concern to the Hammers, although they have already taken a gamble on another Englishman from the Emirates with a similar problem this summer by signing Jack Wilshere.
