Should West Ham target Luuk de Jong, as striker search stalls?

The PSV Eindhoven forward would be a useful addition to the West Ham United squad the summer.

Hammers fans are growing impatient at their side’s lack of transfer activity so far this summer, with Slaven Bilic’s search for an established goalscorer proving to be an illusive one thus far.

With this in mind, the Croatian should consider a move for PSV Eindhoven hitman Luuk de Jong, who has banged in 54 goals in 97 Eredivisie outings since joining the Dutch outfit in the summer of 2014.

The Holland international has experience of playing in England, after spending a four month loan spell with Newcastle United three years ago.

Whilst his time in the Premier League was admittedly unsuccessful, he was never really given the opportunity to showcase his talents on a regular enough basis, and his form in his homeland over the past three seasons should be enough to convince Bilic into making a bid for his services.

Standing at 6ft 2in tall, De Jong possesses fantastic aerial ability, and offers a real threat from set-pieces – something that would surely appeal to Bilic, what with the emphasis he places on set plays.

He is also an out-and-out striker – someone who can be a focal pint for his team’s attacking play, which is exactly what the Hammers need, especially with Andy Carroll being made available for transfer, according to the Mirror.

De Jong is still under contract with PSV for another three years, however, so the West Ham board will have to dig deep to tempt his club into selling.

If they want to be considered as a big club though, they had better start acting like one, and the signing of the 26-year-old Dutch ace could be the start of things to come for the Hammers.
