The Liverpool hitman could prove to be a useful addition for West Ham United.
West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini could have a serious problem this month, if Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez both end up leaving the London Stadium for pastures new.
The Hammers’ attacking department is arguably their weakest link, and it could be about to become even more depleted.
Pellegrini will obviously have to bring in reinforcements this month in attack, and with this in mind, he should consider making a move for Liverpool hitman Daniel Sturridge, despite the obvious risk that it would entail.
The 29-year-old is one of the best finishers in the game, but he has hardly featured for the Reds this season, making just two Premier League starts, and according to the Mirror, he wants to leave Anfield in search of more regular first-team action.
Sturridge has suffered terrible luck with injuries over the past few years, but if he manages to remain fit for the rest of the season, he could prove to be the difference for West Ham in their quest for a Europa League spot.
To be fair to the striker, he has actually been injury free this season, so there is the possibility that he has put his fitness problems behind him.
The 26-capped England international does most of his work in and around the 18-yard box – something that the Hammers will need, if Hernandez does leave this month.
Sturridge has scored 111 in 303 career appearances, and he would be well capable of scoring regularly for West Ham between now and the end of the season.
Quite how much Liverpool would expect for his services remains to be seen, but the Hammers should test the Merseyside outfit’s resolve nevertheless.
And should Pellegrini manage to bring the prolific striker to the London Stadium, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for West Ham.
