The Stoke City man is soon to be out of contract and West Ham United may be wise to snap him up.

West Ham United have a problem at right-back and it is not going to resolve itself.

As talented as Sam Byram is, the 23-year-old is yet to prove he can cut it week in, week out in the Premier League and the experiment to bring an ageing Alvaro Arbeloa to the London Stadium fell flat on its proverbial behind.

With that in mind, West Ham manager Slaven Bilic will surely move fast to rectify the situation in the summer, bringing in a more experienced defender who can ease the pressure on Byram and allowing him to develop at his own rate.

While there are plenty of players out there, it may be wise to consider the free market to snatch a bargain in the form of Glen Johnson.

As reported by Sky Sports last month, West Ham were keen to bring the Stoke City player to London during the recent transfer window.

That move did not come to fruition but in just a few months the 32-year-old will be a free agent, allowing the Hammers to get their man for nothing more than a signing-on fee.

Johnson has Premier League experience in abundance and he still has a few years left at the top.

Only time will tell if Bilic makes his move in the close season yet if Johnson arrives and replicates his best form it would be a deal that suits all parties.
