The Inter Milan man would be a useful addition to the West Ham United squad this summer.
Hammers boss Slaven Bilic has a lot of work on his hands this summer, as he looks to build a squad capable of improving on last season’s disappointing 11th placed finish in the Premier League table.
One particular area of concern for the Croatian will be the right side of his defence, with Sam Byram the only recognised right-back amongst the West Ham squad as they head into the 2017/18 campaign.
Whilst the 23-year-old displayed glimpses of his quality last term, he still seems to be slightly wet behind the ears, and with this in mind, the addition of an established right-back will surely feature highly on Bilic’s agenda this summer.
Davide Santon in action
And an ideal target would be Inter Milan’s experienced full-back Davide Santon.
The Hammers boss tried to sign the 26-year-old last summer, before he unfortunately failed a medical with the club.
Bilic should not let that deter him though, and should go back in for the Italy international this summer.
The pacey defender is incredibly versatile, and can play in either the right-back or left-back positions. He is also incredibly experienced, despite being only 26, having made 155 league appearances already throughout his career.
Santon is a prolific winner, with two Serie A titles, two Coppa Italias and a Champions League winners medal to his name, and that kind of experience of playing and competing at the very highest level could prove to be a huge asset to a West Ham squad that is currently desperately bereft of that quality.
The Italian has just one year remaining on his current deal at the San Siro, so the Hammers will not have to offer too much to tempt the Serie A giants into selling, and should they be successful in bringing Santon to the London Stadium, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance.
