Watford have reportedly made a £10million offer for James Ward-Prowse but should West Ham United challenge for the Southampton midfielder?

West Ham United are in the market for a new central midfielder, with the Evening Standard reporting manager Manuel Pellegrini wants a replacement for Cheikhou Kouyate following his departure to Crystal Palace.
The report goes on to say that as a result the Hammers are challenging Newcastle United for the signing of Lille’s Thiago Maia – but is there someone already in the Premier League who may be a better option?
What about James Ward-Prowse?
According to the Sun, Watford have made a £10m offer to Southampton for Ward-Prowse, who could be sold if boss Mark Hughes decides the 23-year-old is surplus to requirements.
For such a relatively low price for a player who does not turn 24 until November but already has 167 appearances in the top flight of English football to his name, could he be the solution to Pellegrini’s problem?

Making a move for Ward-Prowse could then see West Ham go head-to-head with the Hornets for his signature, but there is every chance they could convince a switch to the London Stadium rather than Vicarage Road is the best option.
The England international is also a versatile player, with the ability to operate on the right flank as well, making him a very useful option to have in a squad.
