West Ham United were keen on a move for Mattia Destro in 2015, so perhaps they should now reignite their interest.

After a fairly disappointing season, the West Ham board arguably have a number of issues to address in the playing squad this summer, with a new goalscorer surely near the very top of their list of priorities.

The Hammers’ current top goalscorer, Michail Antonio, has nine goals to his name, while Andy Carroll is their highest scoring striker with seven goals under his belt.

So perhaps the Irons should turn to a player who was on their radar two years ago following his promising season in Serie A.

According to a report from Tutto Mercato Web back in August 2015, West Ham wanted to sign Mattia Destro, so perhaps now the time is right to reignite the interest.

Destro has been bright for Bologna this term, scoring nine times in 26 games, including three goals in his last two games with a brace coming in the incredibly impressive 4-0 win over Udinese.

With the 26-year-old now reaching what could well be the peak years of his career, it may now be worth West Ham taking a chance on the forward in the hope that he becomes the goalscorer that Slaven Bilic’s men have been crying out for this term.

And with Bologna failing to move themselves out of the bottom-half of the Serie A table, the chance to make the switch to the London Stadium may well appeal to Destro, especially if they show the kind of ambition in the summer window that suggests that they will be able to put this campaign behind them.
