West Ham United were reportedly keen on making Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic their next manager before handing David Moyes a short-term deal.
West Ham fans had been impressed by Moyes after watching him take the side of 30 points with the 2-0 win over Watford last month despite having just nine on the board when he took over in November.
It was some turnaround for the Hammers but back-to-back 4-1 defeats to Liverpool and Swansea and the shocking 3-0 home defeat to Burnley have seen the East Londoners dragged right back into the thick of the battle.
With Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton to play in their last eight games the Hammers have it all to do to stay up.
Reports last month had claimed co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold were set to reward Moyes with a new deal in the summer, as reported by the Evening Standard.
But whatever the outcome should they rethink Moyes’ position after reports emerged that London rivals Chelsea were considering targeting Hammers managerial target Slavisa Jokanovic to potentially replace Antonio Conte, as reported by The Daily Mail.
The Serbian was named as a top target for Sullivan and Gold when they were considering replacing Slaven Bilic both in the summer and earlier this season, as reported by Sky Sports at the time.
Jokanovic has been turning heads at Fulham this season with his side’s swashbuckling football putting them right in the mix for promotion to the Premier League.
If West Ham drag their heels they could risk missing out on one of the hottest managerial prospects around and one who likes to play attractive attacking football.
Jokanovic’s style would go down well with West Ham fans but a lot will depend on Fulham and West Ham’s fate as the teams could well be swapping places in the football pyramid next season.
And if Chelsea make it clear they want the former Watford man they would surely be in pole position for his services.
