The former Tottenham Hotspur ace has disappointed since his move to Stoke City, and West Ham United should make a move for him this summer.
Whoever is in charge of West Ham next season will have a lot of work to do during the course of the summer transfer window, if they are to guide the Hammers to a sustained challenge for the Europa League spots.
One particular area where the east London outfit needs to strengthen is their central defensive department, with James Collins set to turn 35 in August, and Winston Reid still out with a serious knee injury.
With this in mind, West Ham should consider a move for Stoke City’s Kevin Wimmer, who has been linked with a move to Bundesliga outfit Hannover 96, according to the Daily Mail.
The Austria international joined the Potters from Tottenham in the summer of 2017, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £18 million, but he has failed to establish himself at the BET 365 Stadium, making just 14 Premier League starts.
Wimmer still has a lot to offer at the very highest level though, and he could flourish at West Ham, if given the chance to prove himself on a regular basis.
The report from the Daily Mail claims that Stoke are willing to take a substantial hit on the £18 million that they paid out for the 25-year-old last year, so the Hammers might just be able to secure themselves a bargain.
Wimmer is strong in the air, and is a wonderful reader of the game. The left-footed centre-back has plenty of experience playing at the highest level, and he could prove to be a real asset for the Hammers, if they do in fact manage to bring him to the London Stadium this summer.
